HOW WE CAN HELP

Calculator questions

If a result does not look right, review the livestock groups, feeding period, dry-matter intake, hay dry matter, bale weight, storage loss, feeding/refusal waste, reserve days, bale price, and current inventory first. The calculator uses the values entered in the project; it does not replace them with hidden recommendations.

Calculation questions

Use “View Calculation Details” in the calculator to review the formulas, inputs, assumptions, and rounding rules behind the estimate. When contacting support about a calculation, describe the result you expected and include the non-sensitive input values needed to reproduce the issue.

Project-file help

The Hay Needs Calculator uses RanchAssist .ra project files for long-term save/resume. If a file will not open, include the exact message shown by the calculator and, if you are comfortable doing so, attach the affected .ra file. Do not edit the file to add executable code or credentials.

Session recovery

The active browser session may use sessionStorage to protect current work from accidental refresh or same-tab navigation. sessionStorage is not permanent saving. If you need to continue later, use Save Project and keep the downloaded .ra file somewhere you control.

Export help

The calculator can export CSV data and create a print-optimized report that can be printed or saved as PDF through the browser. Copy Summary produces text for messages, notes, or records. If an export fails, tell support which export you used, your browser/device, and what happened after you selected the action.

Email Share help

Email Share is available when the calculator is deployed through Google Apps Script and the deployment owner has authorized MailApp. The calculator sends a summary only when you explicitly request it. If Email Share is unavailable, calculations, .ra project files, CSV export, print/PDF, and Copy Summary can still be used.

Static-hosting note

The standalone HTML version supports calculations, local .ra project files, CSV, printing, and copy summary. Email Share depends on Google Apps Script MailApp and is not expected to work as a purely static page without an approved server-side email implementation.

BEFORE CONTACTING SUPPORT

1. Confirm the calculator page is current and reload it once.

2. Review any validation or warning message shown in the tool.

3. Open Calculation Details and verify the assumptions used.

4. If the issue involves a saved project, confirm that the file ends in .ra and was created by the Hay Needs Calculator.

5. If the issue involves multiple hay types, confirm ration shares total 100%.

6. If the issue involves email, confirm you are using the Apps Script deployment rather than the static-only version.

7. Note your browser, device type, and the steps that reproduce the issue.

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN A SUPPORT REQUEST

• A short description of what you were trying to do.

• The step where the issue occurred.

• The exact error or status message shown.

• Relevant non-sensitive calculator inputs.

• Browser and device information.

• A screenshot if it helps explain the interface issue.

• The affected .ra file only if you are comfortable sharing its project data.

WHAT NOT TO SEND

Do not send passwords, authentication tokens, API keys, private developer credentials, financial-account credentials, or unrelated sensitive information. The Hay Needs Calculator does not require an end-user API key.

PLANNING AND FEEDING QUESTIONS

RanchAssist can explain how the calculator uses your inputs, but it does not provide veterinary, animal-nutrition, forage-testing, agronomic, or financial guarantees. For questions about actual animal requirements, ration formulation, forage quality, health, or safe feeding practices, use appropriate qualified local or professional guidance.

CLEAR SESSION

Clear Session removes the current active RanchAssist project from the browser session. It does not delete .ra project files, PDFs, CSVs, or other exports already saved to your device.

PRIVACY WHEN REQUESTING HELP

Share only the information needed to diagnose the issue. If you send a project file, screenshot, or copied result to support, you are choosing to transmit that information outside the calculator’s normal session-only workflow. Review the content before sending it.
